The Easiest Vegan Teriyaki Sauce: Recipe Video

This is the easiest vegan teriyaki sauce that you can make at home. All that you need to do is mix the ingredients – water, soy sauce, sugar, ginger, and garlic – and heat them. Thicken the sauce with some starch, and that is it. Vegan teriyaki sauce is ready. Hard to believe? Watch the video, and you will.

Earlier in this blog, I have shared a recipe to make oil-free glazed tofu. You will see that this teriyaki sauce can be used to make that recipe. Another example where teriyaki sauce can be used is in this recipe for a Japanese tofu steak.

The sauce is 100% vegan, and since you are mixing the ingredients yourself, you know what goes into it. The only ingredient you will have to buy especially is soy sauce. The other things you are likely to already have in your kitchen – ginger, garlic, and sugar.

Once all the ingredients get boiled for a couple of minutes, the solids can be strained before the sauce is bottled or used directly.

The video suggests using some starch to thicken the sauce. I would rather not use starch or use a tiny amount. But this may be decided after some experimentation. I would also like to experiment with using either dark or light soy sauce.

I love the idea. All I have to do is keep a bottle of soy sauce in my fridge, and I can make teriyaki sauce when I need it. Excellent.
